About the League

The South Metro Volleyball League (SMVB) was formed to provide a competitive volleyball opportunity for 12 & under teams during the fall season.

In its first season, the league consisted of seven 12 & under teams from Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington and Lakeville. Teams played two matches every Monday evening through September and October. The season concluded with a tournament on the final Monday night.

Based on the positive feedback and expanded interest, the 12 & under league has grown to a consistent 12 teams in subsequent years.

The league is sanctioned by the North Country Region of USAV. All players and coaches must be members of NCR, although players who were not registered for the previous winter-spring season will only pay half the normal fee. NCR has also waived team fees.

NCR rules will be used by the league with specific clarifications noted within the league specific areas of this web site. Some league rules have been implemented to promote a positive experience for all teams, regardless of proficiency without excessively penalizing the top teams.

The league is administered by Jeff Thiel. The fees collected are used as follows:

• Provide and maintain the league web site.
• Provide medals for all participants.
• Provide an e-mail list for coaches and directors.
• Develop and publish match schedules
• Collect and report scores and standings.
